How a Work at Home Mom can Land a Data Entry Job

Online jobs are becoming more and more popular these days. In fact, a whole new breed of housewives is emerging, which are the work-at-home moms demographic. If you are one of them, or simply desiring to join this home-based workforce, there may be some tips that can help you land the data entry job you want.

Before you post your first resume or send off your first application letter, these questions should help you get started on getting a clear picture of what you want. Consider these questions before you start, as interviews can come anytime and you would not want to appear to be an ignorant mom:

  1. First off, you need to determine exactly how much time you can devote to the work. Are you a new mother, or are you a mother of three? Are your kids in school so you have more time to yourself, or are they all below school age? These are vital considerations, as you will not be able to use your kids as an excuse for not meeting deadlines. Not only is that unprofessional, it also puts your employer or client at an obvious disadvantage.
  2. Once you have the work hours in mind, make a checklist of your skills, preferably with your skill level. For example, if you are a fast typist, you can note that down. If you happen to have a degree in any numbers-related course, you can even include that, as it may indicate an expertise in handling numbers.
  3. If you would need your husband’s cooperation, for example, with some household chores as you take on the home-based job, be sure to talk it over with him before you start applying. After all, you need to be able to divide the tasks without any complaints on his part. Of course, if you feel you will be perfectly capable of handling all the chores with the added job, that might be a different story, but it would be best to make sure you have his all-out support.
  4. Prepare to work during baby’s sleep time and set your mind on that range of time to make your work faster and easier. Sometimes when you have a target to meet, for example, a walk in the park when baby wakes up, you might be more efficient compared to having a vague sense of the work. Perhaps you can already start to schedule your baby playtime and train him to play alone, so you can work while he is playing.
  5. Even before you get a job, make sure to prioritize quality time with your family as it will help you to work efficiently and effectively. Once you have a regular routine of date nights with your hubby, be sure to set your mind to working around that and not instead of that.

These tips should get you started on a healthy and successful career in online data entry. Remember, as a mom, you can indeed enjoy more than just household chores!
